Here is the full text of Van Gaal’s farewell message.
First of all, I would like to say thank you. Thank you for always being there for the club. Your support has always been unwavering, whether it’s for away games or difficult games at Old Trafford.
The atmosphere at Old Trafford has always been amazing, thanks to you, and I have felt it on many occasions. Even away from home, when United’s chants fill the opposition’s stadium, whether it’s in the UK, in Europe, or on the summer tour, it’s a tremendous feeling for the team and for me.
I’ve always enjoyed meeting Manchester United fans around the world – in the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, the US and elsewhere, I’ve been able to meet and talk to fans on the streets, and you have inspired me and shown such a strong sense of unity – that’s what makes United fans so special.
Thank you for making me feel this way and for supporting me. I would also like to thank everyone at the club for their unwavering support in good times and bad. We have won two trophies together, which are memories I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Of course, my dream was to bring more trophies to the club. Unfortunately, that dream ended here. I wish Manchester United fans nothing but success, trophies and glory. Your support and warmth at the club has made me feel at home here.
