Choi Jung-Si Hwan Roh-Kim Do-young-Peraza to play in 2024 All-Star Home Run Derby

Choi Jung-jeong (SSG Landers), the all-time home run leader in Korean professional baseball, along with 2023 home run king Roh Si-hwan (Hanwha Eagles) and hotshot Kim Do-young (KIA Tigers), will battle for pride in the 2024 KBO All-Star Game Home Run Derby.

“Eight All-Stars have been selected to compete in the Comcast Pro Baseball Home Run Derby at the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO All-Star Game,” the KBO announced on Monday.

The players for the All-Star Home Run Derby were selected by a 100 percent fan vote.

The KBO invited fans to vote on the KBO All-Star website and the KBO application for the 12 hitters who have hit 10 or more home runs as of June 24.

In the voting, which took place from 10 a.m. on June 25 to 10 a.m. on June 27, Choi Jung-jeong topped the list with 22,906 votes.

Kim Do-young (19,248 votes), Noh Si-hwan (13,746 votes), Yonatan Peraza (158 votes-Hanwha), Austin Dean (41 votes), Park Dong-won (36 votes-LG Twins), Kim Hyung-joon (16 votes-NC Dinos), and Mel Rojas Jr. (12 votes-KT Wiz) rounded out the top eight.

Matt Davidson (NC), who leads the category with 24 home runs through 27 games, was not eligible to vote because he was not selected for the All-Star Game.

This year’s All-Star Game Home Run Derby will take place after the Futures All-Star Game on July 5 at SSG Landers Field in Incheon, South Korea.

The winning hitter will receive a trophy, 5 million won, and an LG CineBeam Cube.

Second place will receive a trophy, 1 million won, and the batter with the longest home run will take home a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9.

The KBO will designate a section of the outfield as the “Comp Zone” for this year’s Home Run Derby, awarding the “Comp Zone Most Home Runs Award” to the player who hits the most home runs in the zone, and donate KRW 1 million worth of baseball equipment to the winner’s alma mater.
