Ador, the agency for the girl group NewJeans, refuted Thursday plagiarism allegations from the British group Shakatak surrounding the girl group’s song “Bubble Gum.”
An official from Ador said, “On June 17, we received a legal notice from Shakatak, and our legal team replied on June 21 on behalf of the ‘Bubble Gum’ writers, asserting that ‘Bubble Gum’ did not unlawfully use Shakatak’s composition and requesting a credible analysis report on the matter.”
Ador explained that Shakatak had agreed to provide this report but has yet to do so.
“The burden of proof lies with the accuser, and Shakatak needs to provide a report to substantiate their plagiarism claims,” said the official.
NewJeans’ “Bubble Gum,” released on May 24, faces accusations of plagiarizing Shakatak’s 1982 release “Easier Said Than Done.”
In response, Shakatak retained a local law firm and submitted a letter of protest. Shakatak claimed that “Bubble Gum” features identical rhythms 커뮤니티 and melodies, unique melodic hooks, and similar use of electric guitar and bass, asserting that the rhythms are substantively the same when compared side by side.
