Messi scores for fourth straight game in Miami as team advances to quarterfinals of cup competition

Seven goals and one assist in four games

Lionel Messi (Argentina), the “God of Soccer,” scored his fourth goal in four games to lead Inter Miami to the quarterfinals of a cup competition in his first season of professional soccer in the United States.

Miami won 5-4 on penalties after a 4-4 draw with FC Dallas in the round of 16 of the 2023 League Cup on Sunday at Toyota Stadium in Texas, USA.

Messi opened the scoring six minutes into the match, his fourth straight game with a goal.

Miami gave up three goals in the second half to fall behind 1-3 before Benjamin Cremazzi’s goal in the 20th minute sparked a comeback, only to give up another three minutes later.

But Miami wouldn’t give up. After pulling within one goal on an own goal in the 35th minute, Messi equalized on a spectacular free kick in the 40th minute.

It was his second free kick goal for Miami, following his free kick debut in the group stage against Cruz Azul (Mexico) on March 22.

It was also his fourth consecutive goal since arriving in the United States.

With his two goals on the day, Messi now has seven goals and one assist in four games for Miami.

Messi’s goal sparked a comeback for Miami, which converted all five of its penalty kicks to defeat Dallas, which had two kickers miss.

The League Cup is a cup competition between professional soccer teams from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Miami will play the quarterfinals 스포츠토토맨 of the Cup on Nov. 11. The opponent has not yet been determined.
