KT bats on fire, Hanwha mounds onslaught

KT defeated Hanwha to extend its home winning streak to five games.

KT won 12-6 in a home game at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on the 9th. It was their fifth straight home win since the SSG game on the 1st. Hanwha used ace Peña, but couldn’t break out of a four-game losing streak since April 4 against Gwangju KIA.

KT went with the following batting order: right fielder Kim Min-hyuk, second baseman Lee Ho-yeon, third baseman Hwang Jae-gyun, designated hitter Park Byung-ho, catcher Jang Sung-woo, left fielder Alford, shortstop Kim Sang-soo, first baseman Oh Yoon-seok, and center fielder. Hanwha’s starting lineup was center fielder Moon Hyun-bin, second baseman Jung Eun-won, third baseman Noh Si-hwan, designated hitter Chae Eun-sung, first baseman Kim In-hwan, left fielder Williams, right fielder Kim Tae-yeon, catcher Choi Jae-hoon, and shortstop Ha Ju-seok.

Hanwha struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back arches by Noh Si-hwan and Chae Eun-sung. In the bottom of the inning, Hanwha answered back with a run on a double to right field by Lee Ho-yeon and a single up the middle by Park Byung-ho.

In the top of the third inning, Hanwha put runners on first and second after Moon Hyun-bin singled to center and Jung Eun-won singled to right. Noh Si-hwan hit a three-run arch to left-center field to make the score 5-1.

KT got one more run in the fourth on a wild pitch with runners on second and third. Alford walked on a hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Kim Sang-soo grounded to third, but Moon Sang-chul was thrown out at home. Oh Yoon-seok’s grounder to third allowed Jang Jang-woo to score and a double steal cut the deficit to 4-5.

KT completed a big inning in the fifth to take the lead. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Hwang Jae-gyun led off with a double off the bat of Moon Sang-chul, followed by Jang Jang-woo’s sacrifice fly to left field, Ahn Chi-young’s RBI triple, Kim Sang-soo’s sacrifice fly to center field, and Kim Min-hyuk’s RBI single up the middle to make the score 10-5. In the seventh, Oh Yoon-seok doubled and Kim Min-hyuk hit a sacrifice fly to center field for the 12th run. Hanwha scored one more run in the eighth on a solo shot to center by Noh Si-hwan, but the damage was done.

KT starter Uhm Sang-baek earned his sixth win of the season, allowing five runs on seven hits (three homers) with one walk and four strikeouts in seven innings.

Hanwha starter Peña was tagged for eight runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. The KBO’s July MVP, Noh Shi-hwan, had a one-hit show at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three home runs, but was overshadowed by his team’s loss. 먹튀검증
