Kiwoom wins second straight after adding new outside hitter Dawson
The game-changer for the Kiwoom Heroes was new foreign hitter Ronnie Dawson, 28. Dawson made an immediate impact in last weekend’s game, hitting the game-winning hit and his first home run of the season.
Kiwoom signed Dawson to a contract totaling $85,000 on July 13. After finishing the first half of the season in ninth place, Kiwoom chose to add Dawson to bolster its offense.
Dawson joined the team on April 22 and was immediately named to the starting lineup against the Sajik Lotte Giants, batting fourth and playing left field.
He made his presence felt from his first at-bat. With runners on first and second in the first inning, Dawson hit an outside curveball from LOTTE starter Park Se-woong for a single up the middle. Dawson then reached third on Lee Won-seok’s single and scored on Lee Ji-young’s push single.
Kiwoom held on for the 5-3 win thanks to Dawson’s game-winning hit. Dawson made a splash in his KBO debut, going 1-for-3 with a home run, RBI, and a walk.
The momentum carried over to the next game. On the 23rd against Lotte, Dawson pulled a two-seam fastball from starter Lee In-bok for a towering two-run home run in the third inning with his team up 1-0. It was his first arch of the season in just two games.
After leading off the seventh inning with a single to left, Dawson kept the momentum going with a double to left-center in the 10th. With runners on first and second, Song Sung-moon hit a double to center field, sending Dawson across home plate.
On the day, Dawson went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBIs, and one walk to help his team win 7-6.
Dawson’s late-season hidden card is giving the team a boost. Kiwoom snapped an eight-game losing streak in Dawson’s first outing, and followed it up with a win in the second. 고스톱 After winning the first three games of the second half with a winning series, Kiwoom bounced back to move into eighth place.
