Nick Dunlap, who won the U.S. Professional Golf (PGA) Tour as an amateur in January, has made history by turning pro and winning again.
Dunlap won the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship at the Tahoe Mountain Club (Par 71) in Truckee, California, USA, with a total score of 49 points in a modified stableford format on Feb. 22 (KST).
Dunlap carded one eagle (5) and seven birdies (14) in the fourth round for 19 points, two shots ahead of Vince Wiley (USA – 47 total).
Dunlap won the PGA Tour’s American Express event in January, becoming the first amateur champion in 33 years since Phil Mickelson (USA) won the 1991 Northern Telecom Open.
Dunlap, who turned pro shortly afterward, returned to the top of the leaderboard just over six months later and already has two PGA Tour victories at the age of 20.
It was the first time in PGA Tour history that Dunlap won both the amateur and professional titles in the same year.
The British Open was being held in Scotland during the same time period, and while many of the top players were absent from the Barracuda event, Dunlap earned $720,000 as the regular champion.
He also moved up to 63rd in the FedExCup points standings, giving him a green light to enter the 70-man PGA Tour playoffs.
Only two PGA Tour regular-season events remain this season, the 3M Open and the Wyndham Championship.
Entering the final round nine shots off the lead, Dunlap racked up points in a scary fashion before making a decisive shot on the par-5 15th hole.
With his second shot, Dunlap put the ball on the green and then sank a 17-meter eagle putt that curved from right to left for five points.
With a one-shot lead, Dunlap added two more points with a birdie on the par-4 17th to seal the victory.
“I was playing on a lot of adrenaline after I made the putt on the 15th hole,” Dunlap said in a televised interview after the victory. ”I went through some tough times after my first win, but I’m grateful to my support team, including my caddie, who always supported me.”
Sung Hyun Kim played aggressively with seven birdies (14 points), but four bogeys (-4) cost him 10 points and he finished the tournament in a tie for 17th place with a total of 37 points.
Roh Seung-yeol finished tied for 24th with a total of 35 points. 안전한 파워볼사이트
