“When the second shot eagle went in, I thought, ‘Oh, this is my golf course.'”
Seventh-year Korean Ladies Professional Golf (KLPGA) Tour player Han Jin-sun (26-photo) used a pair of spectacular shot eagles to win her first career title.
Han shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 with two eagles and three birdies for a total of 14-under 274 in the final round of the Haiwon Resort Women’s Open ($800,000) at Haiwon CC (par 72-6573) in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, on Tuesday to take home the trophy and $144,000 in prize money. She finished six strokes ahead of runners-up Im Jin-hee, Lee Ga-young, Lee So-mi, and Madasom (8-under 280).
Han, who overcame a three-stroke deficit on the final day at this event last year to win for the first time in her sixth season and 131st tournament, made it two wins in a row today. She is only the third player on the KLPGA Tour to win with two eagles on the final day after Kim Se-young in 2013 (Hanwha Financial Classic) and Choi Hye-jin in 2017 (Super Sparkling Water Yongpyong Resort Open).
Han’s two shot eagles were the highlight of the day, even for her. After starting the day in a two-way tie for third place, Han birdied the sixth (par-3) and eagled the seventh (par-4) to take a two-stroke lead.
With 147 meters to the pin and a second shot 안전놀이터 over the pond, Han looked up briefly to see if he had made eagle before smiling and high-fiving his caddie as his ball disappeared into the hole. After adding a birdie at the 10th (par-4), Han had a look of disbelief on his face when he holed a second shot-eagle (90 meters) at the 11th (par-5). It was the ‘winning shot’ that pushed the chasers back to three strokes.
“The experience of playing amateur tournaments at Hi One CC often during my school days in Sokcho helped me,” said Han, who shaved five strokes off his third round and seven strokes off his final day. “Now that I have won two tournaments in a row, I will try to win a major next time.”
