‘0-6 down in 2 games’ Man Utd’s Ten Haag

Manchester United manager Eric ten Hagg is confident despite his team’s poor performance.

Manchester United lost 0-3 to Newcastle in the 2023-24 League Cup at Old Trafford in Manchester, England, on Sunday (Feb. 2). The Red Devils also lost 0-3 to Manchester City in the English Premier League (EPL) at the same venue on Sept. 30.

It’s the first time since September 1962 that a team has suffered a three-goal defeat at home in two consecutive games. A 61-year nightmare. United’s pride was bruised. Their chances of winning the League Cup are over, and they’ve dropped to eighth in the Premier League standings. While Tottenham, Arsenal, Man City, and Liverpool are battling it out in the top four, United are languishing in mid-table.

After the Newcastle game, Van Gaal said, “I am a fighter. You can’t always run uphill. United have too many difficulties this season. I know that. But it’s never an excuse. We have to deal with these problems.”

“As I’ve said before, you have to perform even when it’s difficult. Both the last game against Man City and today’s game against Newcastle were not at the minimum level to win,” he said, adding, “We know that we get a lot of criticism when we have bad results.”

“But I believe we can do it,” said van Gaal. I’ve done it with every team I’ve managed before. I did it at Man United last year. Although the current situation is not good. I have to take responsibility for that. I have to share the responsibility with my players. We have to fight together. I see it as a challenge,” he said.

Van Gaal’s contract with United runs through June 2025. There is an option for a one-year extension. That’s at least a year and a half away, and the 스포츠토토 speculation has already started. If United were to fire Van Gaal before the end of his contract, they would have to pay a hefty penalty. Van Gaal’s current salary is reportedly £9 million.

United will host Fulham in the 11th round of the Premier League on April 4. On the 9th, they will travel to Denmark to face FC Copenhagen in the fourth leg of their UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage. They’ll then face Luton Town and Everton in the Premier League, before traveling to Turkuye on the 30th to face Galatasaray in the fifth leg of the Champions League group stage. It’s a tough schedule.
