Hwang Ui-Jo benched, but no debut. Nottingham get first win of EPL opener
For the first time since joining Nottingham Forest, South Korean forward Hwang Eui-jo has been named to the substitutes’ bench for an English Premier League (EPL) match, but will not make his debut.
Hwang was named to the substitutes’ bench for the Forest’s 2023-2024 EPL Second Round home match against Sheffield United at The City Ground in Nottingham, England, on Monday (Sept. 19), but did not get a chance to play.
Hwang joined Nottingham last August after playing for Bordeaux in the French Ligue 2, but was quickly loaned to Olympiakos in Greece.
After finding himself out of favor at Olympiakos, he looked for a team to play for and made a short-term loan move to K League One FC Seoul in February this year, before returning to Nottingham ahead of this season.
After playing in preseason games, Hwang was left off the roster for the club’s first regular-season game of the season against Arsenal on Sept. 12, making his first appearance on the substitutes’ bench in an EPL match.
However, he was not picked while Nottingham activated five substitutes on the day, so his debut will have to wait until another occasion.
After a 1-2 loss in the first leg against Arsenal, Nottingham picked up their first win of the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
Nottingham’s starting striker Tywar Hourini opened the scoring three minutes into the match, heading home a cross from Serge Aurier.
After conceding an equalizer three minutes into the second half through Gustavo Hammer from mid-range, Nottingham made three substitutions – Anthony Elanga in the 24th minute and Chris Wood in the 39th – before Wood scored the winner in the 44th minute.
Again, a cross from the right flank by Aurier was met by a header from Wood to secure the three points for Nottingham. 먹튀검증토토사이트 All of Nottingham’s scorers on the day were competitors for Hwang’s position.
Nottingham travel to Manchester United for the third leg on Oct. 26.
