Hangzhou AG women’s national football team entry confirmed
Overseas waves such as Cho So-hyun, Lee Geum-min, and Lee Young-joo are missing
Korea Football Association
The Korea Football Association announced on the 22nd the final list
of 22 women’s national soccer teams for the Asian Games, led by Colin Bell.
Unlike men’s soccer, where players under the age of 24 and wild cards participate in this tournament,
there is no age limit in women’s soccer,
so the A national team led by coach Bell will participate.
Of the 23 players who participated in the World Cup,
5 were excluded and 4 new players joined.
Born in 2007 to an American father and a Korean mother, the pair was omitted.
Signboard midfielder Cho So-hyun,
who is looking for a team after her contract with Tottenham expired,
Lee Geum-min (Brighton) and Lee Young-ju (CFF Madrid), who are playing abroad, and goalkeeper Yoon Young-geul,
who announced their retirement, were also excluded from the list.
Their positions were filled by Lee Min-ah (Hyundai Steel),
Lee Eun-young (Korea University), Moon Eun-joo (Hwacheon KSPO), Choi Ye-seul (Changnyeong WFC).
World Cup
After being selected for the national team in 2012, Lee Min-ah, who played an active role in the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France,
but was not included in the World Cup list due to injury, returned to Belho after 8 months.
Lee Eun-young, Moon Eun-ju, and Choi Ye-seul, who participated in the final training in preparation for the World Cup in June,
but unfortunately did not make it to the final entry, will stand on the Asian Games stage.
Coach Bell calls the team to the Paju National Training Center (NFC) on the 5th of next month,
trains for about two weeks, and leaves for China on the 19th.
Starting with the first round of group E against Myanmar on the 22nd, Korea will face the Philippines on the 25th and Hong Kong on the 28th.
A total of 8 teams will advance to the tournament,
including the 5 first-place teams in each group and the top 3 second-place teams in each group.
Women’s National Team
The women’s national team won bronze medals three times in a row,
from the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou to the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang.
Meanwhile, Australian coach Matt Ross, who has been assisting coach Bell since 2019, ended his contract at the end of the World Cup.
