Putin claims tactical nuke deployment in Belarus true, causing tensions in Eastern Europe.

U.S. military intelligence officials believe Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claim that Russia has moved tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus is true, CNN reports.

According to CNN, senior officials from the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), part of the U.S. Department of Defense, spoke to reporters on Nov. 21 local time and said they have “no reason to doubt” Putin’s claim that Russia has moved tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus.

Putin said last month at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, that Russian nuclear warheads had been deployed on Belarusian territory.

CNN reported that DIA officials would not disclose the basis on which they believe Russia has deployed tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, acknowledging that U.S. intelligence officials have found it difficult to track them, even through satellite imagery.

Earlier this month, U.S. and Western officials said they did not believe Belarus had completed the necessary improvements to its facilities to store Russian tactical nukes, 먹튀검증 but other sources said Belarus already had a variety of weapons storage facilities built during the Soviet Union.

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace also told CNN last week that he has seen signs that Russia has moved weapons, stressing that “Putin doesn’t always lie.”
